Riding High on Highlights

Last week we shared our three easy and effective tips to help get your Instagram Stories in front of more people. Raise your hand if you used these tricks in your stories last week!! So, you’ve upped your story game and there are more eyes on your content, but now what? Well, this week we’re taking it to the next level with Instagram highlights! Highlights always live on your profile and are a great way to showcase some of your favorite stories! Here’s how we approach them.

1. Pick general topics you share often or important things you want to feature. For example, if you share your weekly blog to your story, you can have an ‘On the Blog’ highlight. We recommend having no more than six highlights on your page. Keep it relevant!

2. Create covers for your highlights. Instagram is all about aesthetics, so keep yours clean and on-brand with highlight covers. There are so many ways you can design cover photos to fit your brand, from solid colors to icons and even just the name of your highlight. These can easily be made on online graphic designers like Canva!

3. Share to your story! When sharing you can click on the highlight “heart icon” and then choose the highlight you want to save that story in. It’s that easy!

4. Do you have some older stories that you wished you could add to your highlights? Well, you can! You can go through your archive and select whatever you’d like to be included in your highlights.

Major Takeaway: Not everything belongs in a highlight! It’s just that – a highlight. Pick content that is more evergreen and makes sense to the highlight theme and what you really want to keep sharing! Want to share something important in a highlight, but don’t want it to be there forever? No worries! You can remove stories from your highlight just as easily as you add to it.

It’s really that simple! Thanks to highlights, you now have an added layer of branding on your Instagram profile. Just think of highlights as an extension of your bio. They live front-and-center on your profile, and they’re most likely going to be the first thing that catches your audience’s eyes! If you really want someone to get to know you and your brand, utilize this space given to you! Tell us what highlights you’re going to add to your profile in the comments of our latest Instagram post!
