It’s been a hot minute since we last talked about hashtags. We all know the basics behind how to use them and why’re they’re important (if you need a refresher, click here)! So, now is the time to ramp things up and start building a long-term strategy for your brand! Yes, another strategy. But don’t stress — we’ve created a formula that’s easy to follow and implement into your existing social media strategy. Grab your coffee and let’s get started!

There are so many different types of hashtags out there that you can use to enhance your brand or business. These hashtags include:

Branded – hashtags that are unique and specifically describes your business
Niche – aka industry-based hashtags. Your niche hashtag will carry the message relevant to your specific industry!
Community-Related – think #MomBlogger or #DebtFreeCommunity. These types of tags are great for connecting with Instagram users and boosting your SEO to find followers.
Content-Based – hashtags based on what is in the photo you’re posting. For example, if we posted a behind-the-scenes shot from a photo shoot, we would include hashtags such as #PhotoShoot #StyledShoot #BehindTheScenes because they relate to what is in the photo and what we’re discussing in the caption!
Location-Based – hashtags that pinpoint your location and help your followers know where your business is located. These tags come in handy for users who would be interested in your products or services!

Not all hashtags are created equal, which is why you need to think about how you create hashtag sets using a formula:

Instagram allows you to include 30 hashtags on any given post. That doesn’t mean you should use 30 every time, though! Try using a set of 10 hashtags on one post and then 25 on another and measure your results. Once you start noticing a clear pattern, you can narrow your list and decide which are the most effective hashtags to use for your brand!
